Jackie flew out to Tucson on Thursday and we checked in to the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort for two nights. It as an amazing place. On Friday we went to the Sonoran Desert Museum, which is really more like a zoo. We saw all sorts of cool animals and had a great spot to watch the Harris Hawk show. On Saturday we went on a little hike by the resort and then drove back to Ft. Huachuca. We saw the movie Unknown later that night. Sunday we relaxed and Monday we headed back up to Tucson to get Jackie to the Airport. 2 1/2 weeks and Colby graduates!!

New Years in El Paso

I went out to El Paso to see my friend spencer and his family. We went to the Carlsbad Caverns in NM and then floated down the Pecos River to see some Chistmas lights. The flannel theme was the best part of the night.

Colby's Disneyland Tribute to Drew

When we went to California with Jackie's family, we spent some time at Disneyland. When we went in the castle and saw the Sword in the Stone, I instantly remembered a picture of Drew showing his biceps and pulling on the sword when we went to Disneyland in 1998 (I think). I figured I would recreate the shot the best I could. Turns out I had the picture taken from the wrong side, but close enough.

Colby was one of the groomsmen at his friends wedding. We had a wonderful time being invited to the Temple Sealing and the reception was at Red Butte Gardens were we had our reception. It was a great day and brought back loving memories of our special day. Colby still looks good in his suit doing blue steel!

For Labor day weekend we went up to Snowbird. My family has a condo up there and it is during the perfect fall time of year. We went on a hike up to hidden Peak (elevation 11,000), had dinner, and went on the alpine slide! The first picture is a moose we saw right off the trail!!!

THE HIGHLINE TRAIL IN THE HIGH UINTAS

My friend Bruce (a fellow Oregonian) and I decided to hike from one end of the Uintas to the other--the entire length of the Highline Trail, which is around 70 miles--according to our calculations because the other distances we found online and in hiking books varied between 65-80 miles. We had four days to do it. We planned on starting at Chepeta Lake, which is the actual ending point and then hiking west to the trailhead. We had to drive for over an hour on a dirt road to get to Chepeta Lake, and we go tired of waiting to get on the trail so we decided to start a bit to the south at the West Fork trailhead and meet up with the Highline a few miles down the trail. Here are a few pictures of our journey:

Just stopping somewhere for a picture only a few miles into the hike, still smiling and feeling good.

The first (and easiest) of seven passes. We are feeling good after only 7 miles or so. Behind us is Fox lake where we lost a dog for about an hour.

Where we set up camp the second night. We just finished a 20 mile stretch in 7 1/2 hours. Anderson Pass is looming in the distance. Tomorrow we plan on climbing three passes.

On top of Anderson Pass (The worst of the passes). Behind us is Tungsten Pass and then behind that and to the right (not in the picture) is Porcupine Pass. We climbed all three that day and set up camp on the other side of the furthest mountains that are visible in the picture. Forty miles to the finish line.

This campsite is literally right on the trail. We just finished going up and over 3 passes and we were to tired to walk off the trail to find a place to camp.

On top of Red Knob Pass. A few hours later we were standing on top of the wall of rock directly between our heads. The pass in the distance is Dead Horse Pass.

We walked across this whole map, pretty much the whole yellow line, but we started at the West Fork Trailhead because we got tired or driving on a crappy dirt road to get to the actual trailhead about ten miles more to the north (it was about the same length of trail anyway).

The Finish! About 65-70 miles later! Tried to smile, but couldn't . . . too much pain.

Marianne put together an amazing birthday party for Ava! She was turning 4 and all her guest were 15 years and older, so a huge age range for a party. We started painting butterflies, Colby's is the blue and purple one, then we played popcorn hop outside. The team members put cups on their feet filled with popcorn and walk to the box. You can't use your hands and the team that fills their box before time runs out wins! Ava was on my team and we won, because she said so not because we had the most popcorn! Our prize was bubbles and everyone got some, then we went inside to open presents and have our bug cupcakes!!

Every spring Highland High Dance Company makes a wonderful concert for the public. I was in the company in high school and this spring I went back with my friends to do an alumni dance. We danced for our dance company president that past away in the fall of 2009. We love you Lisa!

Disney Day of Service

We did a day of service at the Utah food co-op last saturday. It wasn't motivated by charity or anything, we just wanted free tickets to disneyland! We did a little amateur remodeling. We took sledge hammers to a wall to make a bigger store and then we framed and sheet rocked a wall on the other side of the store. All-in-all the workmanship wasn't super professional, but it looks like the wall will stay up for a at least a few weeks.

Feb 6th started with making him breakfast (oatmeal with a candle, yogurt and juice) in the morning, then lunch with Tara, Scott, and my family at paradise, one of colby's favorite places. Then to the temple for baptisms for the dead with the young men/women. Off to dinner with spencer and april while the surprise gang waited for him at Boondocks. We had a great time laser tagging, racing on the track and playing games. He was totally surprised!!! I can't believe Colby asked him to marry him one year ago on his bday! Wow time flies!! The sweet shades are from our arcade winnings!!

So we haven't posted for a while. Colby is busy with school and work (three months til graduation and commissioning) and Jackie is busy with whatever she is doing (decorating for Halloween). We just got back from a short trip to Oregon. Jackie had a shower with Colby's aunts, cousins, sister, grandma, etc. We also had a BBQ out in McMinnville with all the family. We made it out to the beach for a little bit also.

Just want to say a big thank you to everyone for the great trip and all the gifts that we got out there. Our kitchen is quickly filling up with some sweet stuff.

Coming up Jackie has a shower with her friends and then one with the ladies from her ward.

We registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Colby only really cares about the George Foreman Grill, and Jackie really wants the shower curtain, and pretty much everything else. So good luck with that. You can just type in either one of our names on the bridal registry page.

Also, we got an APARTMENT!! It is a one bedroom apt just south of where Colby lives right now (about 21 south and 12th east). We can walk to the two most important places in the world: Paradise Bakery and Chipotle. What could be better? Jackie doesn't like the brown carpet, but it is good enough. She also said the bathroom is too small, and the kitchen is just a little hallway. Despite all that she still loves it, and she can't wait for Colby to start working it on the Foreman Grill that we will get for a wedding gift from whatever relative(s) loves us the most.
